Preparatory School

A Stimulating Community Environment

The Preparatory School for children aged 7 to 11-Years 3,4,5 & 6- is situated on the main school campus but separate from the Secondary School. The pupils are able to make use of the extensive facilities such as the library, science and computer laboratories, hall and the art room, whilst remaining secure within their own surroundings. The Preparatory School is a close community where the aim is to develop a stimulating environment in which pupils can learn both academically and socially.

  • Extra Curricular Activities as well as regular homework are an important part of the pupil’s education.

  • Each class has a Form Tutor who is responsible for their overall care.

  • At the weekly Preparatory Assembly each Form takes a turn to perform a ‘Thought For The Day’.

  • Each term the children work towards different targets such as helpfulness or friendliness and at the weekly assembly a pupil from each Form is chosen as Pupil of the Week.

  • A weekly library lesson encourages the joy of reading.

Preparatory School pupils take part in regular inter-house and inter-school activities such as Poetry Recital, Swimming Galas, Sports Matches, Fun Activities and Debating.

  • Good behaviour, improved effort and good work are rewarded with houses credits.

  • There is a provision for Remedial Support and for teaching English as a Foreign Language. Access to outside assistance for individual assessments can be arranged if necessary.

  • Literacy and Numeracy skills are developed in all sessions and French is taught in a fun, informal way but does not include written French until Year 4.

Year 3 is still mainly class-based being taught mostly by one teacher, apart from few specialist subjects such as French, Art, Music, Computer Studies, Drama, Physical Education and Swimming.

In years 4, 5 and 6 all subjects are taught by specialist teachers who build on the Year 3 curriculum. This greatly improves our academic achievements. In year 6 all pupils sit the ISEB Common Entrance Examination at 11+ which helps us compare our standards with those of private sector school in Britain. Our pupils maintain a very high average score.

Throughout the school, written tests, examination and practical assessments take place at regular intervals during the year.
