The Mombasa Academy – History Department The History Department teaches students from Year 3 to Year 9, covering a wide range of periods. In the Preparatory Department, students study the following areas: · The Tudors · The Aztecs · Ancient Egypt · Ancient Greece · Invaders and Settlers · Doctors through the Ages · The East African Coast 1000-1700 · The expansion of the Islamic Empire · Medieval Realms, Europe 1000-1500In Years 7-9, pupils study the following areas: · The Industrial Revolution · The Slave Trade · Changing Mombasa, Kenyan Independence · The Native Americans · Black Peoples of the Americas · The French Revolution · World War One · The Russian Revolution · Nazi Germany Pupils are encouraged to work independently, using a variety of sources and producing work in a range of mediums. A wide range of teaching techniques is used in order to reach the highest standards. In Years 10 – 11, students follow the Edexcel International IGCSE Syllabus which concentrates on modern world history, stimulating a great deal of interest and debate amongst students.
