Complimenting Academic Achievement

The Creative Arts are a vital component of a well-balanced education. Children of all ages and abilities can experience the pleasure and rewards of creative work. The school hall is fully equipped and has a versatile, multifunctional stage which is regularly used for performances by our enthusiastic and talented pupils.

DRAMA

Mombasa Academy has a tradition of performing high quality drama, which is taught to all classes up to Year 11. An annual School Play, a Talent Show and various Musical and Cultural productions take place throughout the year. Professional drama teachers prepare some students for examination by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

MUSIC

Music is included in the weekly timetable from Kindergarten through to Year 8. The department aims to promote enjoyment, awareness and understanding of a wide range of music, both ‘classical’ and ‘popular’, from around the world, as well as to develop each child’s own musical skills and confidence. Practical music-making forms a large part of the curriculum and include vocal work, the use of classroom percussion instruments and electronic keyboards. Awards for musical excellence are made at the annual Speech Day. Both the Junior and Senior departments present several musical concerts each year, in which students of all ages are encouraged to take part.

ART

For the Art Department the culmination of the academic year is the annual Open Day, Art Exhibition and Auction when the artistic and creative achievements by pupils of all ages are on display – not only by those studying art to examination level, but by pupils who participate purely for pleasure.
